* Speculation was rife as to the identity of the Linklaters' partner who pocketed £3.4 million last year. The payment, included in the firm's first set of LLP accounts, was considerably higher than the firm's average profit per equity partner of £1.4 million and the £1.8 million paid out to partners at the top of the equity structure. According to The Lawyer, the payment was most likely one-off compensation to a partner who relocated to one of the firm's international offices in the last year, which would not rule out managing partner Simon Davies, who moved from Hong Kong to take up the post in London. Either way, the revelation has resulted in a lot of envious murmurs from other lawyers across the City, not least at One Silk Street.
