Gametap Layoffs, Restructuring Underway

Gametap has closed its Atlanta-based technical and support team, according to published reports. The move is part of a broader restructuring plan by its owner, France-based Metaboli. The company has also reportedly hired 10 new staff members for its San Francisco offices. The company has signed 15 new deals to bring newer games into its mostly classic games catalog - a move that the company hopes to accelerate in the future.

"We need to show that we have moved forward and that we now offer a wide range of recent PC games, Gametap rep. told Joystiq this week. "Some old PC games will be replaced by more recent PC games or by some casual games. Our decisions were taken based on our gameplay statistics, which is much better than our own opinion about the games or the opinion expressed by some of our users on the forum.
