By james_fudge
According to a consumer spending survey conducted by research firm, Newzoo, 46 percent of gamers age 8+ in the United States spent roughly $11.64 billion USD for used games, online game subscriptions, micro transactions and digital downloads - from a total budget of $25.3 billion USD. That leaves $13.66 billion USD for new packaged retail games. The firm conducted a 13,000-respondent study in cooperation with TNS as part of the 2009 Today's Gamers Survey.
Divvied up among platform, U.S. gamers (183.5 million of us in the U.S. according to Newzoo) spent $15 billion on home consoles and handhelds, $4.15 billion on PC games, $2.78 billion on game portals (like Pogo, RealArcade, etc.), $1.1 billion on mobile devices (includes iPhone and iPod Touch), and $2.12 on MMOs.
