National Library Week

By Carrie

ADVERTISEMENTS

It’s National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians, and library workers across the nation.  First observed in 1958, National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and is celebrated each April.  This year’s theme is Worlds Connect @ Your Library.  Here at the Ross-Blakley Law Library we aim to connect different worlds every day.  Library staff connects students, faculty, and others with information from all over the world.  We connect the worlds of digital and print to bring you the best resources available.

We hope to connect your world to a bit of fun during National Library Week!  Here are a few of the ways we’re celebrating:

  • Check out the Law Library’s submissions to the ABA Journal’s Peeps in Law contest:

1L Peeps Study Group

Sheriff Joe Arpeepo

You can take a ‘peep’ at the dioramas in person, on display at the front desk.

  • When you are in the library, be sure to keep an eye out for the Golden Ticket.  Each day it will be ‘hidden’ somewhere in the library.  The finder of the ticket can bring it to the Circulation Desk and redeem it for a prize.
  • Be sure to enter our haiku contest for fame, glory, and fabulous prizes!  A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry, consisting of three lines of five, seven, and five syllables, respectively.

Haikus, they are fun
and do not take long to write
Just five, seven, five

Please submit your library- or law-related haiku (or whatever subject you wish — who are we to stifle your creativity?) by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009.  Entries can be emailed to carrie.henteleff@asu.edu or submitted in person at the Circulation Desk.  Haiku contest winners will be announced on Friday, April 17, 2009.

There is more fun to come!  Watch the Law Library blog for our daily National Library Week entries including:

  • Wacky patron questions
  • Book recommendations
  • Staff bios
