New Consolidation of BC Rules With May 5th OICs

By Steven Matthews

ADVERTISEMENTS

With the new BC Supreme Court Family and Civil Rules scheduled to come into force on July 1st, many firms are now scrambling to ensure they have the most up-to-date versions available. On May 5th an Order in Council came into effect which introduced a series of new amendments to the new rules. A number of local colleagues have said that getting a consolidated version of the rules that included the May 5th OIC has been difficult.

Speaking with our legislative friends at Quickscribe, they do have a fully consolidated version. Given the demand out here in the BC market, they’ve also been nice enough to share that consolidation for free.

So here’s the offer: Quickscribe will open up full access to its online legislation database and allow any member of the public to view the updated rules at no charge. Full instructions on how to do so are available here.   Users will be able to print all or part of these documents on demand (including PDFs for internal firm circulation); and full free access will continue to be available through to July 1st.

I also confirmed with Mike Pasta that firms are welcome to explore their service further during this open period. The company is simply swapping free access for market exposure. In any event… it’s a valuable offering for BC lawyers and law librarians.
