ADVERTISEMENTS
Tired of decidedly unseasonal Law & Order reruns? Disgusted by treacle-filled holiday specials? Want something in-between?
Fret not, court-o-rama has your holiday-ish (in that these take place around holidays, but are not so themed) entertainment guide:
- Looking for something to do in Danbury, Connecticut? Check out the Courtroom Library Series. The Danbury Library presents Reel Justice, a series of court-related films ("Anatomy of a Murder," "Inherit the Wind," etc.), complete with popcorn and some beverage known as "soda."
- Triple threat: lawyer-director-actor Tegan Shohet directs Someone to Watch Over Me. It runs through December 13 at the Berkeley St. Theatre Upstairs in Toronto.
- If the weather outside is too frightful to go out, curl up with the work of lawyer-poets. Start with The Cyclopean Eye, The Courtly Game, Admissions Against Interest: Five Modern American Lawyer Poets, Michael Stanford, Legal Studies Forum (2006). Stanford explores the work of Archibald MacLeish, Edgar Lee Masters, Charles Reznikoff, Brad Leithauser, Lawrence Joseph, and Martin Espada, with liberal mention of Wallace Stevens, Clarence Darrow, and others along the way (we know what you're thinking -- "that's more than five!" -- but that is indeed the title of the essay).
