ADVERTISEMENTS

Attorney General Eric Holder’s mother died last month at the age of 86.

A memorial service for family will be held this weekend, according to Politico’s Playbook.

Miriam Y. Holder, the daughter of Barbadian immigrants, grew up in New Jersey and later married Eric Himpton Holder Sr. The couple lived in New York, first in the Bronx where Eric was born, and later East Elmhurst in Queens.

She is survived by two sons — Eric and William Holder.

In a 2008 interview with The Nation newspaper in Barbados, Miriam said she was very proud of her son’s nomination to be the first African-American Attorney General.

“Our son Eric is a well-grounded person, fair in all that he does, will sit and listen and he makes decisions based on fairness. He has always been a person mature beyond his years,” she told the newspaper. “He will do an outstanding job as the first black attorney general.”
