Coakley ?A Little Frightened? at ?Very Tight Race,? Memo: ?Trouble Moving Independents?

By Phil

ADVERTISEMENTS

After an extremely positive showing by State Senator Scott Brown during last night’s debate as well as a phenomenal outpouring of over $1.3 million for his campaign, his Democrat opponent, Massachusetts (spelled correctly!) Attorney General Marsha Coakley, is “a little frighten[ed at] how much traction he’s been able to get so quickly” (h/t LegalInsurrection):

This account of Martha Coakley’s reaction to Scott Brown’s rise in the polls paints Coakley as a mostly clueless politician (emphasis mine):

On a private conference call with DNC chair Tim Kaine and top Dem donors this afternoon, Dem Senate candidate Martha Coakley acknowledged that GOPer Scott Brown?s surge was ?frightening,? said top Dem donors had been complacent, and promised a last burst of TV ads to close out the race. ?It?s a little frightening how much traction he?s been able to get so quickly,? Coakley said on the call, which I was able to listen in on this afternoon, adding that he?d successfully used terror and joblessness to stoke voter fears. Coakley also pleaded with donors to come through with last-minute funding for what she said would be an extremely pricey home-stretch. ?It?s astounding how expensive this is,? Coakley said, saying additional TV ads are on the way. ?We can?t stress enough how urgent it is. We need $400,000 in additional TV, $325,000 in getting out the vote mailings, and $80,000 in robocalls.?

The Democratic primary may have produced the single worst possible candidate for a hotly contested statewide election in this environment.

73Wire.com posted how the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has had to make a last-minute move of $600,000 cash into the State, and that CQPolitics now moves the race to “Leans Democrat:”

Although the Odds are still against Scott Brown winning this seat the changing dynamic of this race not only makes for exciting politics but also indicates Democrats waning influence and popularity in a heavily blue state.

ThePlumLine reported on an internal memo from the Coakley campaign that was sent to top Democrat donors, showing how seriously caught off guard the establishment politicos have been regarding this race: CoakleyforSenateUrgentMemo11010

AmericanThinker sums up what’s going on in their posting, “The Second Boston Tea Party?” (last paragraph):

What we are witnessing, whether Brown ultimately wins or not, is a Second Boston Tea Party. The people — meaning the ordinary voters of Massachusetts, who will have to endure the consequences of a very unpopular health care measure and an increasingly unpopular president — will speak next week. Washington insider punditry and the smug bosses of the Democratic Party, who bribed Ben Nelson with noxious privileges which offend even the benefited Nebraskans, may well hear the loud voice of average Americans at last. If by some miracle Brown wins, then the filibuster-proof Senate is doomed, along with plans to pass a murky, ugly, leviathan health care bill. If Brown comes close to beating Coakley, then no Democrat in America can feel safe outside deeply gerrymandered congressional districts. The mere fact that Democrats are sweating now means that the Second Boston Tea Party has sent a clear, strong message to Washington: You work for us, and not the other way around.

The entire final Massachusetts Special Election debate can be found at C-SPAN.
