: Practical ParalegalismThe Court Is Happy to Inconvenience You
By Lynne DeVenny
Practical Paralegalism readers know I love a good grammar blooper in a want ad or business correspondence, but verbal bloopers are welcome, too.An attorney member of a specialty section listserv shared her legal assistant's recent experience with an appellate court's recorded telephone greeting (and is allowing me to share it with you in a discreet manner so as to continue to please the court):
I thought I'd pass this on to everyone - my assistant e-filed a simple motion for an extension last Wednesday.Today we got an incoherent e-message telling us our motion was electronically approved today, with a bunch of gobbledy-gook about how we could find the document.
I asked my assistant to figure out what on earth this meant. She went to the court's website, which showed our motion was filed but not yet approved.
When she called the clerk's office to follow up, she got this message: "All lines are currently busy. Please try calling again later. Thank you for your inconvenience and have a great day."
As she then remarked to me, "I'm glad my inconvenience pleases them!"
