: Practical ParalegalismWant to Start Jeans Day at the Law Firm?
By Lynne DeVenny
United Way is throwing out its out-dated mom jeans poster, and business casual has made jeans less unusual at work, but that doesn't mean the support organization has given up raising funds through official Jeans Days celebrated by participating employers. Employees contribute $1 a day for the privilege of wearing jeans to the office.
The Rapid City Journal reports that South Dakota law firm, Gunderson Palmer Nelson & Ashmore, LLP raises about $1,000 a year for United Way with its Jeans Fridays:
On Jeans Fridays, the office hangs a sign saying, ?We recognize United Way Jeans Day,? to let clients know the reason for all the denim. Plus, some attorneys and staff wear a shirt with the firm?s logo to keep things looking professional, Gibson said.
Staff members have really taken to it.

If you can wear jeans to work, consider investing $40 to $50 (or keeping an eye out for a great sale) in a nice pair of well-cut, dark wash trouser jeans, and pairing them with low heels and a professional blouse. I sometimes wear a pair of very dark wash trouser jeans with a navy blue, fully-lined Sandro blazer I scored for $10 bucks off a TJ Maxx clearance rack. Once a female attorney complimented the outfit, exclaiming, "That is a great-looking suit!" I didn't correct her.
