: Des Moines Personal Injury LawyerBy the Book - How many should we kill to increase the government's profit margin?
By Steve Lombardi
Should there be limits on how far police should go when pursuing every day citizens suspected to be criminals? Most of us think, what the heck, so the alleged criminal died, so what? What was the cost of incarceration? Heck this was a bargain. Kill more of them.
Am I right?
What do you think? Should you kill one, five or five hundred? What's an acceptable kill ratio?
No let's ask that another way: How many citizens are you willing to authorize to be killed? Yes you need think in terms of a decision as if you were the one making it.
Not someone else or some unknown person, but Y-O-U and Y-O-U-R-S.
That is the questions that remains after an accident on October 3rd 2009 between a Pensacola police officer and bicyclist left the bicyclists dead. The police officer, Jerald Ard, was said to have followed a man from a construction site when he flashed his light to get the unidentified victim to pull over. When the bicyclist wouldn't pull over investigators say that officer Ard shot a stun gun out of his window at which point the suspect turned into a parking lot, crashed his bike and was run over by officer Ard's police cruiser. While the Florida Department of Law Enforcement refused to release details witnesses allege that the police cruiser jumped a curb and dragged the man 10 to 15 feet. The case, including the use of the Ards force is being investigated.
How many voters will say, "The little bastard had it coming. Good we saved money with having to put him in prison."
But was he a criminal? Why do we have the presumption of innocence? How does your brain work? Are you right or are you left? Are you Republican or are you Democrat? Are you the one of the five or the one? How do you justify the decision that results in death of a person?
Remember I said, you change one fact and the way you think about this story is all different?
