Part 5.3 of 10: Who's running the Greedy Bastards' Club anyway?

By Steve Lombardi

ADVERTISEMENTS

WHAT MAKES THE AMERICA GOVERNMENT DIFFERENT THAN THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY?

What is it about the American dream that makes us different from the rest of the world?

Why should our children still dream the American dream?

Is the American dream one of quality of life or is it one of insatiable greed?

Because courts aren't independent of the government, officials often take a direct role in dealing with victims in high-profile incidents. In the aftermath of May's Sichuan earthquake, the parents of children who died in collapsed schools were dissuaded from turning to courts while the government conducted investigations.

The Sanlu lawsuit comes as some lawyers who offered to assist families of sickened children report being pressured to stay away from the issue. Beijing lawyer Li Fangping, who organized a group of over 120 volunteer lawyers around China to provide free legal advice to families affected by tainted milk, said he has received numerous calls from lawyers in the volunteer network who said they are facing pressure from local officials to refrain from getting involved.

Wall Street Journal, October 1, 2008

ARE YOU SEEING A COMMON THREAD HERE?

To put this in perspective you have to realize that Communist countries generally don't allow civil jury trials and the awarding of non-economic damages. If they do those civil rights are very limited. As Karl Marx reasoned the people and all workers owe their pain and suffering to the State. Socialist law or communist law comes mainly from a code; judges dominate trials, and judges who are career bureaucrats or Party members. The judiciary has limited judicial independence, juries are often used at the lowest levels and courts are subordinate to the legislature. A prime example is the Soviet Union.

Consider mandatory arbitration that does away with judge and juries; uses business community members as decision-makers and has no real judicial independence. Next, consider that limiting "non-economic" damages by legislative action is another form of eliminating juries. If you have a jury trial, but the jury has no power to award damages of any significance due to restrictive legislation, then in the end you really didn't get a trial by jury.

IS THE WORLD ECONOMY CHANGING THE FACE OF AMERICA FROM A FREE COUNTRY THAT RESPECTS HUMAN RIGHTS?

Watch this YouTube video on the tyranny of the Chinese Communist Party and see if aren't similarities of things Americans currently see developing in their own government policies. Note the basic principle that human quality of life is secondary to political and business power. This is the foundation of the basic governmental corruption, driven by greed that takes the place of civil rights and the quality of life. The poor, the powerless, those aged and those without influence are relegated to positions of pawns to be used by those in power.

We must ask ourselves if we Americans are what we say we are, or something else.

Are we capitalists with a government that protects people or are we becoming communists?

Does our participation in a world economy with China and Russia require us to be more like them or can we remain a country that really respects human rights?

Is the American business community becoming just another form of the Chinese Communism Party that restricts the rights of the working people for the sake of profit?

Is our government so aligned with business interests that it no longer sees economic benefit in civil rights and the quality of life for its people?

It matters very little what either major political party says it stands for; we taxpayers always end up on the short end of the stick. Republicans reminded us that if elected Democrats would run up the deficit; and then they ran it up to record levels. Democrats say they won't, but do.

Who does represent the American people?

Answer: I'm not sure any more.

I'll continue later today with asking the question, who are the women with bound feet?
