: Phoenix Personal Injury LawyerIs it ok for a doctor to prescribe Actonel if you have osteopenia?
By Michael Monheit
There is no consensus how to achieve world peace or how to solve the unemployment problem. The same can be said about whether or not it's okay for a doctor to prescribe Actonel if you have osteopenia. Doctors and medical experts refuse to agree and don't agree to disagree about osteopenia and Actonel.
Actonel is the brand name for risedronate sodium.
What is osteopenia? Osteopenia is a condition where bone mineral density (BMD) is lower than normal. Bone mineral density measures the level of minerals in bones indicating their density and strength. Many healthcare professionals see osteopenia as the precursor to osteoporosis.
Osteopenia is a normal sign of aging. Everyone who has osteopenia will not get osteoporosis. Treatment of osteopenia is controversial. Some doctors will prescribe carte blanche Actonel for everyone with osteopenia as a preventative for osteoporosis.
Other doctors hold the bisphosphonate reins a bit more tightly and offer direction to a more calcium-rich diet, calcium and vitamin D supplements, and plenty of weight bearing exercises while recommending to cut back on alcohol consumption and smoking.
Studies have shown that the actual benefits of these drugs like Actonel may be marginal in the treatment of osteopenia.
If you were diagnosed with osteopenia and you have suffered debilitating injury like jawbone death, esophagus cancer, and femur fractures while on Actonel, contact an unsafe drug lawyer so they can help you determine what your legal options are regarding Actonel lawsuits.
