: Mike Conaway's BlogA Letter from the Eagle Forum on Cap and Trade
Dear Representative Conaway:
On behalf of Eagle Forum members nationwide, I thank you for listening to the voices of the American people and for voting against the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454).
The longer the House debated this bill and the longer the liberal Leadership attempted to keep the text under wraps, the more the grassroots opposition increased. The grassroots could see through the folly of imposing a massive, across-the-board household energy tax on every American family during a serious economic recession. In fact, a Rasmussen poll last month revealed that 71 percent of voters believe job creation is more important than tackling climate change, while 67 percent admit they are not willing to pay higher taxes and utility costs to generate alternative energy that will supposedly fight so-called “global warming.”
Your NO vote on Waxman-Markey is an example of your leadership and commitment to the great American principle of government of the people, for the people, and by the people. We sincerely appreciate your leadership on this important issue and your commitment in the battle of reclaiming and reasserting basic American principles, such as limited government and fiscal restraint.
May God continue to bless you as you work for American families.
Faithfully,
Phyllis Schlafly
