International Law

Freedom to Differ Freedom to Differ

A blog that speaks freely about legal issues facing the media and the internet. It mainly covers issues relating to the legal regulation of the internet and the media, but at times Constitutional law issues and politics are discussed. While the focus is on Australia, developments in other nations around the world are considered as well.

"My Side Versus the Other Side"

Posted on January 12, 2010
Why is the other side of the debates I?m on always so hypocritical? They always jump on what my side says, and yet they willfully ignore all the faults on their own side. Let?s be honest about the double standard: The other side gets away with stuff that my side would never get away with...

Ted Olson?s Case for Gay Marriage

Posted on January 11, 2010
Ted Olson explains why he supports gay marriage and has joined with David Boies to file suit to support it. Many of my fellow conservatives have an almost knee-jerk hostility toward gay marriage. This does not make sense, because same-sex unions promote the values conservatives prize...

I have no idea what time it will air ? but it?s going to be a great show," O'Brien said at the start of his monologue, according to a transcript from NBC...

"Should Law Grads Be Banned From The Legal Profession For Cyber-Stalking?"

Posted on January 09, 2010

A new challenge

Posted on January 08, 2010
This week I embarked on a new challenge.  For the next three months (and possibly beyond) I will be working for Electronic Frontiers Australia (EFA), as campaign manager for the EFA's mandatory internet filtering campaign (see here and here).  Over the past two years I have been particularly concerned by the Australian Government's proposal to introduce a mandatory internet filter, and rather than continuing to sit on the sidelines of this important national debate, I decided wanted to do everything I could to persuade the the Government and the Australian community that effectively censoring the internet by introducing a mandatory filter would be a mistake...

Professions with daily measurement ... what about law?

Posted on January 05, 2010
I've been thinking about those professions where your self -worth is given a number as a part of your job. TV people have ratings. Authors get Amazon rankings. Performers count the people in the seats at each performance. Waiters get tips which are supposed to have some correlation to the quality of service...

I was a blogger once

Posted on January 04, 2010
Once upon a time I used to blog. More importantly, I used to really enjoy blogging. I'm not really sure what changed but somewhere along the lines I stopped blogging. Search engine neutrality

Posted on December 30, 2009
