5 Blogs and 5 Blawgers

Posted on September 04, 2008
Well, I've been tagged. The latest chain-post making its way around the legal blogosphere is "5 Blogs and 5 Blawgers" -- wherein those who are tagged must pony up their favorite 5 non-law blogs for consideration -- and then subject five more victims to the process. When it comes to my favorite non-law blogs, I tend to favor the practical over the philosophical. Find me a blog that provides some quick, helpful tips on my subjects of interest, and those are the feeds that get stuck in my newsreader. Here are 5 of my favorite blogs, or types of blogs: -- Lifehacker continues to be my favorite blog for learning how to do things better, faster, and smarter. Whether it's learning how to install hard drive in a Macbook, learning about new software, or finding out what to do when a store sells you a box of crap and won't take it back, I find more than one helpful post every day...

Get Yer Legal Tech Reviews Right Here!

Posted on September 01, 2008
Lexbe is an interesting, versatile company. Their core business is the sale of a web-based litigation management application that provides case analytics and document management tools. But like all good Web companies, they also give away some great stuff for free. First it was Litilaw, a fully-searchable online collection of more than 900 recent legal articles from lawyers and firms around the country. Now they're providing a different type of document collection: litiReviews offers links to more than one hundred free legal and litigation software reviews collected on the Internet. Even better, they've categorized the reviews so you can browse by a particular type of software. I'm not sure how quickly the articles are added to the collection, and I hope they are doing something to make sure the reviews don't get outdated by new releases of software, but I sure appreciate a resource like this.

Blawg of the Day Hall of Fame -- Ernie the Attorney

Posted on August 28, 2008
One of the best things about blogging is finally getting to meet some of the people who previously you only knew from their blogs. One such person is Ernie Svenson, whose blog Ernie the Attorney is one of the oldest and most popular law blogs around. I first mentioned it on November 4, 2002. Ernie has one of the most approachable blogs around -- he spends a lot of time talking about the technology he uses in his practice, but he also talks about the law, culture, politics, and his home of New Orleans. We've had the opportunity to meet and present together on several occasions, and he's really a great guy to know.

Blawg of The Day Hall of Fame -- SCOTUSblog

Posted on August 19, 2008
I first covered SCOTUSblog on October 2, 2002, in a post titled A New, Promising Blog. Guess I hit the nail on the head, eh? Since 2002, SCOTUSblog has become the authority on the U.S. Supreme Court, and author Tom Goldstein has now been joined by 10 other reporters. You won't find better commentary and coverage on the Supremes anywhere else on the Internet. While you're visiting SCOTUSblog, make sure you also check out SCOTUSWiki, a brilliantly comprehensive wiki that covers everything the Supreme Court is handling each term. You'll find links to pleadings, briefs, transcripts, commentary, and a whole lot more.
