Blawg of the Day -- New Jersey Public Safety Officers Law Blog
Posted on August 18, 2008Today's blog, however, is not a golden oldie -- the New Jersey Public Safety Officers Law Blog is dedicated to corrections officers, policemen, and firemen throughout the Garden State. It's published by Frank Crivelli of the firm of Arpaia & Crivelli, which protects "the rights of those who serve and protect."
Blawgs of the Day, Revisited
Posted on August 18, 2008Now that I'm entering into my seventh year of blogging, I realized that I've been featuring a brand new law blog nearly every day of the week for the past 4-5 years. I'd like to start revisiting some of those great blogs, to let you know how they've changed and what they're up to these days. I'll still be featuring brand new blogs, but you'll see a few old-timers in the mix from now on.

He practices primarily in the areas of criminal defence and appellate litigation, and at his blog he's bringing you current developments of the criminal justice system in Calgary.
Blawg of the Day -- eLaw Exchange
Posted on August 13, 2008eLaw Exchange is much more than a blog about e-discovery -- here you can find lists of service providers, e-discovery state law and rules, litigation intelligence resources, and many other materials. It's brought to you by e-discovery guru Michael Arkfeld, who's providing most of these resources for free. Looks like a great e-discovery site!

RSS-ify your Google searches
Posted on August 11, 2008RSS is a great research tool, but to be truly powerful you must be able to create your own customized RSS search feeds. Yes, there are a few services that do this -- Kebberfegg was one of the earliest keyword-based feed generators -- but not enough for my liking. Now there's a new tool that will create an RSS feed out of your Google searches. Feed My Search will automatically turn your search into an RSS feed, on several of the Google search pages -- Web, News, Video, Blogs, Local, Books, Images, and Patent search. Hopefully, a good addition to the RSS search arsenal. Thanks to LifeHacker for the heads up.
Blawg of the Day -- 3 Geeks and a Law Blog
Posted on August 11, 2008I've gotten to know Toby Brown from being at ABA TECHSHOW for the past few years -- he's a great speaker, and he knows his stuff about just about any kind of legal technology. He's now working down at Fulbright & Jaworski doing some knowledge management stuff, and he and two others have started publishing 3 Geeks and Law Blog. According to the byline, it's "a law blog addressing the foci of 3 intrepid law geeks, specializing in their respective fields of knowledge management, internet marketing and library sciences, melding together to form the Dynamic Trio." The other two geeks are law librarian Greg Lambert, and marketing person Lisa Salazar. When I first subscribed to it they were only providing the titles in their RSS feeds -- I hope they change that to offer more of the post in the feed...
Blawg of the Day -- Digital Copyright Canada
Posted on August 08, 2008Digital Copyright Canada is a spare-looking site, but it boasts a good number of publishers -- 11, in fact. They focus on digital copyright, but they'll also discuss the related issues of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and other protections. Russell McOrmond is the coordinator of the site.

Blawg of the Day -- The Last Word
Posted on August 06, 2008I got to know my good friend Laura Calloway through working together on the ABA TECHSHOW planning board -- in fact, she recently succeeded me as Chair of the TECHSHOW board, where I hear she's doing great things. When she's not planning major technology conferences, Laura, is the Director of the Alabama State Bar's Law Office Management Assistance Program, where she dispenses wisdom and advice on technology, finance, marketing and management issues to Alabama lawyers. Now Laura has entered the blogging world, and in a big way. At The Last Word, she's discussing news of interest to members of the Alabama State Bar. She recently returned from the ASB's Annual Meeting, and she live-blogged the activities there. Laura's handing out the same great advice she does in her job, but now we non-Alabama lawyers get to benefit from it...
Paper-Free Traveling
Posted on August 05, 2008When I travel, I take a *lot* of reading material -- books, magazines, and articles about e-discovery and other technology issues that I've found on the internet. Yes, I'll admit it -- in the past when I found these articles, I would print them out and bring the all that paper with me on the plane -- after all, it's the best way to read those articles offline....right? Thanks to my Kindle, I can now save all those trees and leave the paper at home when I travel to the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City tomorrow. The way I did this was probably not the most elegant, but it worked great for me. Here's what I did: I had already bookmarked 11 technology articles on Delicious for later reading. I went back to those articles, and cut and pasted the text from each into a single Google Doc (there's no reason why you can't also use Word or other word processor)...

Free Chapter from Our Collaboration Book
Posted on July 29, 2008I've been remiss in mentioning this, but the great folks at TechnoLawyer posted an excerpt from the book Dennis Kennedy and I wrote, The Lawyer's Guide to Collaboration Tools and Technologies: Smart Ways to Work Together. The excerpt they chose to reproduce is from Chapter 17, simply titled SharePoint. It gives what we think is a good basic overview of the collaboration tool, for lawyers who might not know a lot about SharePoint. While you're at the TechnoLawyer blog, make sure you sign up for their free newsletter. They consistently deliver fantastic legal technology news all week long -- not just from experts, but also reviews from lawyers who are using these tools in their practice. It's a don't-miss subscription.

A New Wiki for Lawyers
Posted on July 28, 2008Oklahoma attorney Brad Smith has created a new wiki for lawyers to use, and it looks promising. LegalWikiPro is, like Wikipedia, a free collaborative encyclopedia that anyone can edit -- but this one is for lawyers. Brad wants to provide real content for real lawyers, but to that he needs your help -- after all, a wiki depends on the collective knowledge of the community to be successful. The wiki is divided into three main areas -- Federal, State and General. To see how powerful a wiki of this type can be, check out the Oklahoma pages -- there's a lot of great, free information for lawyers there. The rest of the wiki is just waiting for you to get started -- so go on, start editing!

Blawg of the Day -- e-discovery 2.0
Posted on July 25, 2008I am heading to San Antonio today to take part in the TechLawSA conference, so I figured I'd feature an e-discovery blog today. e-discovery 2.0 is published by the folks at Clearwell Systems, an e-discovery provider. While they spend their days working on live cases with enterprises, law firms, and service providers to help them with their e-discovery issues, they want to share their thoughts about e-discovery on the blog, and encourage discussion among like-minded e-discovery enthusiasts.
