TUESDAY NOTES

Posted on April 20, 2010
Sheila Alu Day - by now everyone knows that disgraced former Sheriff Ken Jenne (Satz's chum) has lost his pension for good.  Something like $135,000 a year for life, sacrificed for a lousy $150,000 in ill gotten gains (that we know about).  Well, it got us thinking...

BRESLAW v. ROBINSON

Posted on April 19, 2010
Attorney Jordan Howard Breslaw has filed for County Court Group 14, against Judge Mary Robinson. The filing is here. Here's a bit of info on Breslaw, by Bob Norman in 2006. WOULDN'T IT HAVE BEEN EASIER TO JUST GIVE THE PEOPLE WHO CARE A "SEAT AT THE TABLE"?

MONDAY NOTES

Attention ASAs and APDs - free lunch courtesy of BACDL this Thursday at the 110 Tower.  Judges and members get in free too. Click here  for the flyer advertising the event, featuring speechifying by Chief Criminal Judge Marty Bidwill.  We're told all the candidates will be there too, so it might be worth checking out for the dirty looks alone...

AL SCHREIBER WEIGHS IN

Posted on April 19, 2010
BROWARD COUNTY CAMPAIGNS by Al Schreiber I regret to inform the voters and the lawyers in Broward  County that I am not running for a judgeship.  Also, I am not Alan Schneider, who just filed to run against incumbent Circuit Judge Elijah Williams. Thanks, nonetheless, for all the phone calls and support for my non-existent campaign...

SUNDAY NOTES

Trial Stats through March - get your trial stats here, as released by the Clerk's Office on April 15th.  The judges' year to date totals follow the March numbers.  Keep in mind that judges get a trial credit for a case that pleads after a jury is sworn, if you're looking at the numbers with a critical eye...

SCHNEIDER vs. WILLIAMS

Posted on April 15, 2010
Attorney Alan B Schneider has filed for circuit court, against Judge Elijah Williams. The filing is here. And there are still two weeks left until the April 30th filing deadline ... (Thanks to "Judge Williams has opposition")

MISS MANNERS SAYS ...

Posted on April 14, 2010
Making a list, and checking it twice ? nasty anonymous comments are once again the topic du jour, dear readers.  This time we?re told the SAO is up in arms, over a recent onslaught of baddies concerning ASAs involved in the Zolnoor Affair (imagine that), and the sliming of good girl Allison Kelliher in Spitgate...

HERE'S SPIT IN YOUR EYE

Posted on April 12, 2010
Click here for the video from last week that everyone's been talking about. The incident happened in Judge Destry's courtroom, and it's no laughing matter.  The ASA was hit square in the eye with a medium consistency goober, and she's been prescribed meds...

"Different cases; different facts; we don?t discuss pending cases."

Posted on April 07, 2010
Lou Toman's famous photo of author Raag Singhal and a mentally incompetent Monster ... It was a typical response from the Broward State Attorney?s Office.  They were asked to explain how two Coral Springs City Commissioners were formally charged with Sunshine Law Violations a mere twenty days after their alleged occurrence, while six fired Hollywood police personnel, whose actions were captured on videotape, remain uncharged...

JAABLOG IS A REFLECTION OF ITS COMMUNITY

Posted on April 06, 2010
It?s not the Blog?s fault, but they can't admit it - The Broward County Bar Association's (BCBA) Professionalism Committee  met yesterday.  Of all the things we?ve heard, one thing?s for certain.  The meeting was disorganized, and yes, unprofessional...

JAABCAM: VEGAS EDITION

1.) Low price lawyer billboards dot the horizon, like this one near Chinatown ("Criminal $100.00 Down" - hey, they stole our business model!).  Stylish billboards for the The Defenders, and $700.00 DUI's, are all over I-15 (not to mention The Poop Magician's  residential dog doo removal services); 2...

WEDNESDAY BONUS

Posted on March 31, 2010
"Broward is what?" Conciliatory sounds from Llorente? ? it seems like it, at least from his comments in Thursday's Sun Sentinel, and his brand new "President's Message" (note to our various selves: never, ever, tick off Eddie Dominguez). Still, we?re not sorry for calling the Broward County Bar Association (BCBA) "a toothless, sycophant organization for people in power"...

JAABCAM QUICKIE

Posted on March 31, 2010
1.) Shame on Broward! - a thirteen year old child being taken from court Wednesday via the public hallways, handcuffed behind the back, pursuant to BSO policy.  The kid was bawling his eyes out ("Why do I have to go to jail?"), despite the genuinely kind and sympathetic efforts of two of Central's best deputies (come on Vic, sign the damn administrative order already, please?); 2...

MOTION DENIED!

Posted on March 30, 2010
Judge Ana Gardiner's Motion To Dismiss was denied a few minutes ago.We accessed the telephonic hearing, which anyone can do.  Next time we'll post the info in advance.David Bogenschutz argued that he's concerned for future JQC panels, as the ability of the JQC Chair to "manipulate" the makeup of the panel makes for an "intolerable" and unfair situation for a sitting judge to have to deal with...

What's going on at the satellites? - lots of time a whole lot of nothing, as far as we can tell.  Tuesday morning featured a rare first stop at the North Satellite Courthouse, for an 8:30 hearing.  A circuit trial call in Central at 9:00 followed, and a couple of 10:00s in Hollywood after that...
